We're bringing you another new spin on Evening Rounds in November, with a panel of experts taking on men's health. It's only fitting that during "Movember" we tackle the issue of how to reach men with health initiatives and programs. Join us to hear about local initiatives making a difference in the lives of men in Vancouver, and stay for a discussion and Q&A.
As always, Evening Rounds events are free but space is limited!
Oliver Ferlatte, Still Here Project
Still Here is a photo project featuring lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and two-spirited (LGBTQ2S+) individuals affected by suicide. The aim of the project is to break the silence around suicide and start a conversation about the need for targeted suicide prevention programs for LGBTQ2S+ communities.
Paul Gross, The DUDES Club
The "DUDES Club" provides events and activities that focus on the spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of wellness in men residing on the DTES. We focus on connecting men with health care professionals and other support services, as well as instilling a sense of solidarity and empowerment within the community.
Larry Mroz, UBC School of Nursing
Larry’s recent research has centred on Advance Care Planning (ACP) for patients in primary care practices and community ACP workshops. Most recently he is working with a multicentre ACP project “iCan ACP” looking at ACP in long term care facilities, primary care clinics and hospital settings, and a “Diversity Access Team” focusing on diversity in accessing ACP programming for members of LGBT, Chinese and Punjabi communities.
